Case Study: Einstein
|
|
This talk considers the impacts of
Einstein's work on modern physics. Topic areas covered
are molecular existence and diffusion, the photoelectric
effect and applications, lasers, special and general
relativity (including consequences and apparent paradoxes).
The tour includes black holes, wormholes and time travel.

Case Study: Global
Climate
|
|
Starting with the square root of two,
concepts such as iteration, complex chaotic systems
and co-existing solutions are introduced. These are
related firstly to a simple global climate model and
then to a more complicated one. A virtual climate calculator
is used to study various climatic changes.

and Technology Interactive for more screen shots.

Case Study: How
to Breed the Optimal Tin of Beans
|
|
Ever wonder why a tin of beans is the
shape it is? This demonstration looks at optimal design
and suggests why some designs are better than others.
Following graphical and algebraic solution a genetic
algorithm is introduced to "breed" an optimal
tin of beans using a Darwinian selection pressure -
the audience become the genetic material in this process!
