Scientific, engineering and technical software is often a spin-out from modelling and simulation. It allows a wrapper to be placed around the knowledge to ensure that use of it can be quickly and efficiently made. Often such software extends the usefulness by building in optimisation techniques or allowing "What if?" to be asked, both of which can greatly affect productivity.

Case Study: Gutter Design

This software was developed to help a company automate the production of industrial gutter designs. Full drainage to the appropriate British Standard was accomodated along with automation of outlet positions and individual unit length calculations to ensure that optimal materials usage is made.

Full design parameters, cut lists and bill of materials is supplied as output. The software cut design time down from several days to less than 1 hour, allowing rapid turnaround of customer requirement evaluations.

Additions to this software allow full production of customer-ready quotes based on minimal user-input. Full costing break-down is provided for internal monitoring purposes.

Case Study: Process Control Software

This software was developed to help control the operation of a custom-built piece of manufacturing machinery. Knowledge based systems are build-it so that the user has to supply the minimum of information. Libraries of previous operations allow recall for repeat cases and also provide manufacturing QA documents to support audit.
